Lampwork Lofts

Oakland , California
Cost: $19,300,000 | Previous Use: Manufacturing | Current Use: Housing

Project Details

Located in industrial West Oakland, this former manufacturing plant was built by the Austin Company in 1912 for General Electric’s Mazda Lamps to supply lightbulb to states west of the Rockies. Although the rehabilitation was interrupted by the recession, the project forged ahead when the market recovered. Today, Lampwork Lofts has 92 loft style market-rate apartments featuring open floor plans, high ceilings, and industrial finishes. While this area has witnessed numerous new development projects recently; this rehabilitation is a significant catalytic to preserving the industrial heritage of West Oakland.
